5:30PM - Discount Acupuncture Treatment

I am a Clinical Acupuncture Intern at Tai Sophia Institute in Laurel, MD. I have a few treatment slots available for new patients. Because the slots are offered at a discounted rate (close to 50% off the rates of private practice in this area), there are a limited number available. All payment benefits the Institute and I receive course credit for the treatments I offer.

I'm new to the area, can anyone recommend a bank or credit union in Annapolis? Or what banks to avoid?

2:16PM - snow suggestion

It's very easy to become dehydrated in this weather.  Cold, wet and windy, you don't think about drinking fluids and then most people drink tea, coffee, hot cocoa ...which do not help rebuild hydration.

Being dehydrated leads to feeling tired, poor decision making...maybe rushing something that should be done slowly, with care... especialy important because in our normal day to day world we are so used to the ability to call 911 and have a rescuer there in 5 minutes and be at a hospital within 40 minutes.   With this much snow, EMS services get bogged down and you are risking others lives when they need to come out.  It's a good time to procede with care and not rush....

6:01PM

I'm a local classroom teacher hoping to expand my classroom library.
If you have any teen-geared fiction, or any other novels you think middle schoolers might enjoy, please let me know!  I'd love to recycle your unwanted books into the hands of new readers.

11:52AM - Hey Y'all -

I just moved here over the weekend, and I need to buy a bicycle. Are there any bike shops in town you'd recommend?

What are your favorite trails in the area?

8:37PM

Does anyone know of a store in the area that would sell duck breasts?  I don't need a whole duck.  Fresh is preferable, but frozen is also okay.
Alas, I live on the Eastern Shore, so a 90 minute drive to Dean and Deluca in DC is not really "in the area."

10:11AM - SUBMISSIONS OPEN for DC Shorts Film Festival 2009

Submissions are now open for the 2009 edition of the famed DC Shorts Film Festival! Visit the updated web site at http://dcshorts.com

DC Shorts turns the spotlight on truly independent short films, created by new and established filmmakers in an era when the art of filmmaking is opening to all. We select films from every genre for our competition screenings — with a special focus on films created by metropolitan Washington, DC-based directors and writers. After each screening, filmmakers have the opportunity to speak to the audience as part of a moderated panel.

In 2008, DC Shorts reviewed more than 750 entries from around the globe. We selected 103 short films for screenings at 8 showcases during the competition weekend of September 11-14, 2008, with each show featuring an average of ten short films. Since a major focus of the event is the inclusion of filmmakers, many of the films were represented by the more than 108 filmmakers in attendance from 8 countries. More than 2,600 people attended the screenings.

DC Shorts gives ALL ENTIRES feedback -- a point which impressed MovieMaker Magazine to name us as "one of 20 festivals worth an entry fee," AND as "one of the leading film festivals" in the country.

THE EARLYBIRD DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 15, 2009.  Submission fees go up after that date -- so enter now and save!

I look forward to seeing your new works!

- Jon Gann
 Festival Director

PS: If you have a film of Asian or European interest, check out the new EuroAsia Shorts Film Festival at http://euroasiashorts.com  Low fees, unique themes, and screenings at embassies and cultural centers throughout Washington DC.

1:35PM - Random Project - Any Help Is Appreciated! :-)

First off, thank you mod for letting me post this... :-)

I'm making this traveling notebook for my son, and one for my brother. I'm pretty much trying to find, one or a few people from each of the 50 states for this notebook (well, both notebooks). They both travel together and will be passed on to someone else in the USA so postage costs shouldn't be much when posting out again. What I'm looking at doing is having everyone put a state map postcard, or a descriptive postcard from their state - so it has the silhouette of the state with the state bird, flower, something like that... write about your state, what you like about the state, what your life is like... add photos, and just plain be creative with the books... when you've put in your entry and your happy with it - I'll give you the next address which will probably be in a neighboring state and you send it onto the next "host". You can write the same in both of the books... that's not a problem at all... :-) I've been rounding up people for the books, but they've just been sent out today to Washington (from Australia)....

So yeah, if anyone would like to help that'd be great and contact me by commenting here, email at sara.ringham@gmail.com or just message me on here and we'll go from there... if you have any questions let me know as well - it's after midnight so I'm sure I've missed out on something... thanks for helping anyone that is interested in helping me out!

12:02PM - Looking for new community moderator

Hey Annapolitans and other Chesapeake Bay folks:

I have quietly moderated this community from the beginning. I have to say that this has been a very great group -- so awesome to help people connect to each other in our area.

But now I've moved on with my career and have not really had the time to focus on moderating (or even spending time on LJ).

Is there someone in this community who would be interested in moderating? (Maybe this could be a couple of someones.) Maybe you even have a vision for how to expand or improve the group.

Do you want to be the new

3:53PM - need caterer recommendations

Hi everyone! I live in Baltimore but I'm having my wedding in Annapolis next month. We're just have a small wedding, 50-ish people, at a family friends' house. We're going to do a barbecue and get a few items catered- we'll just pick stuff up from the caterer. Does anyone have recommendations?

I've been told that Palate Pleasers is very good, but I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience with them, and knows what they do well. We're also thinking of getting some items from Annapolis Seafood Market- maybe shrimp cocktail and some crab soup. There's also Whole Foods, which has some things the others do not, but I don't know if they are any good.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!
